Yfoundations 2026–27 Federal Pre-Budget Submission

In January 2026, Yfoundations submitted our 2026–27 Pre-Budget submission to Federal Treasury. This submission outlines practical, evidence-based reforms that would strengthen prevention, remove barriers to housing access, and address income inadequacy that continues to disadvantage young people experiencing and at risk of homelessness.

Yfoundations’ 2026–27 Federal Pre-Budget Submission aligns with the Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2026 campaign and focuses on policy levers under Commonwealth responsibility that can meaningfully reduce youth homelessness.

This submission identifies four priority reform areas:

  • Strengthen early intervention and prevention systems
  • Invest in youth-specific housing with wrap-around support
  • Remove barriers and streamline access to housing support for young people who cannot live at home
  • Increase income support to remove the youth housing penalty.
